There are not many professions where you have the creative
freedom to dress how you like. Most corporate professions prefer the
secretary-office-clone-look. However, if you work in media, the arts, or
marketing you can definitely drop the gray three piece suit and spice up your
look with bright colors and bold patterns. Here are 5 ways to dress for a
creative office environment.
COLOR BLOCKING
Color blocking is a great way to make a bold statement. It
screams that you’re a risk taker. If
you’re stuck on what colors go best with each other, simply stick with
complimentary colors: red and green, purple and yellow, blue and orange. These
pairs always look great together and create a fresh look. Don’t be afraid to
add a bit of neon to the mix either. A blue harem pant and a neon yellow sheer
top is refreshing but also appropriate for a day at the office – creative office that is.
BOLD SHOES
Shoes can either make or break an outfit. You want your shoes
to make a statement, but not one that says hot mess. Wear neutral tones and
pair them with a bright shoe. This adds
the perfect amount of chicness and sophistication. A white top with beige pants
and bright pink shoes shows that you’re professional, but daring.
PATTERNS
Patterns are everywhere. Whether it’s cheetah print or polka
dots, wearing patterns is an awesome way to add some flare to an office outfit.
However, when mixing patterns, it’s important you stay within the same color
family. You don’t want look too loud and crazy. Also look for solid pieces that
can break up patterns. This will allow the eye to distinguish between multiple
patterns.
SKIRTS
We are so used to thinking that the only skirt appropriate for
work is a pencil skirt. WRONG! A flared skirt, hemmed just above the knee, can
transform and update your work look. It’s fun and conveys just the right amount
the sexy. Play with different textures like leather or lace. Show off those
legs girl!
JEANS
Jeans are a classic, hands down. You can dress them up or
down. They are perfect for a creative and casual work environment. Pair a light
blue jean with a white blazer to give a twist to the traditional white tank and
jeans. You can even add a pastel top to the mix. This would give a subtle pop
of color, while also softening the look.
