MET GALA 2014 PREDICTIONS.

“The Party of the Year” is just a few days away, and we’re dying to see what all of our favorite stars will be wearing.  If you thought the Oscars had some gorgeous looks, then brace yourself, because this year’s Met Gala is sure to feature some major gowns.  This year’s Metropolitan Museum Gala and Costume Exhibit theme is “Charles James: Beyond Fashion (1906-1978).”  James, one of the few true American couturiers, is best known for his structural, elegant and glamorous ball gowns.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, dress code for the men is white tie, but there is no mandate for women.  We’re expecting lots of ball gowns, along with some theme “rejectors” (there’s always a few!).  The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Lupita Nyong’o is expected to wear Prada (she wore the designer to the Oscars, so we’re stoked about this), while Prabal Gurung will be represented by Zoe Saldana and Givenchy by Amanda Seyfried.

Here are six dresses we’re hoping to see make their way down the red-carpet.
Taylor Swift will be representing J.Mendel at the Gala, and this dress would be perfect on her.  While it’s not a ball gown, the dress’ mermaid silhouette and structural details will make it a standout.  Plus, Taylor tends to go the sparkly route on red-carpets, so this will be a nice departure.
This Carolina Herrera gown from the Pre-Fall 2014 collection would be everything on Jessica Chastain.  Her red hair and fair skin would look gorgeous against the blues in this dress.

This quintessential ball gown would look fabulous on Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke, who is also expected to attend.  Love the contrast between the oxblood top (sweetheart neckline, no less) and the light pink skirt.  The moderately raised hemline in the front allows for the display of some elegant heels.
If anyone could pull of this chic and sexy gown from the Monique Lhuiller fall 2014 collection, it’s Naomi Watts. The 45-year-old Aussie actress has been looking better than ever lately, and she has the legs (and poise) to make this dress her own.
This regal Marchesa gown would make Girls actress Allison Williams look like a goddess. The jeweled neckline and delicate sleeves are stunning.  If a star is going to depart from a big skirted ball gown, we would be more than happy to see a dress like this one.
We wouldn’t be at all surprised if a few bridal gowns graced the red-carpet, such as this one from Vera Wang.  The pink color is sure to stand out, and the soft, structural folds in the back, along with the delicate lace detailing, makes it even more special.  We could see Jessica Alba in this one.

What we would also love to see?  Lots of major, major custom gowns – we’re expecting a whole lot of iconic looks to come out of this Gala!

THE BEST OF THE MET GALA.

The Met Gala is right around the corner.  The lavish soiree is known for its pricey tickets, over the top couture gowns, and celeb attendee’s.

This year’s theme is all about designer Charles James, who is known for his glamorous ball gowns of the 40’s and 50’s.  This is quite the departure from last year’s punk theme.

The Met Gala doesn’t take place until May 5th, so we’ll have to hold out to see what our fave stars will be wearing this year.  While you’re counting down the days till then, take a moment to remember some of the best looks from Met Gala’s past.

Hopefully, they’ll be many more looks to love at this year’s gala.  Which look do you love the most?  Sound off below!

MET GALA 2014.

It’s that time of year again! The Met Gala is approaching and I couldn’t be more excited for this year’s theme: Charles James. James is known as America’s first couturier. His gowns are so visually and aesthetically appealing and I just hope that the guests live up to his name and his work.

Some of my favorite Charles James gowns are:

Would you wear a custom gown by Charles James? Who do you think is gonna dominate the Gala this year?

THE WORST OF THE MET GALA.

Past, Present and Future, the Met Gala is known for its lavish dresses and extremely expensive tables. Last years theme was "Punk Fashion" and the dresses certainly resembled that. Kim Kardashian made repeated appearances through out the web after the event because of her "couch" themed dressed. Not really couch-y fabrics but it wasn't flattering at all to say the least. Another dress that made it on the blogs is Gwyneth Paltrow's Pink cut out gown. A little more flattering than Kim's upholstery gown but still made it on the list of one of the worst Met Gala gowns. Check out who else made the list!

WHAT TO WEAR TO WORK: CASUAL/CREATIVE OFFICE EDITION

There are not many professions where you have the creative freedom to dress how you like. Most corporate professions prefer the secretary-office-clone-look. However, if you work in media, the arts, or marketing you can definitely drop the gray three piece suit and spice up your look with bright colors and bold patterns. Here are 5 ways to dress for a creative office environment.

COLOR BLOCKING

Color blocking is a great way to make a bold statement. It screams that you’re a risk taker. If you’re stuck on what colors go best with each other, simply stick with complimentary colors: red and green, purple and yellow, blue and orange. These pairs always look great together and create a fresh look. Don’t be afraid to add a bit of neon to the mix either. A blue harem pant and a neon yellow sheer top is refreshing but also appropriate for a day at the office – creative office that is.

BOLD SHOES

Shoes can either make or break an outfit. You want your shoes to make a statement, but not one that says hot mess. Wear neutral tones and pair them with a bright shoe.  This adds the perfect amount of chicness and sophistication. A white top with beige pants and bright pink shoes shows that you’re professional, but daring.

PATTERNS

Patterns are everywhere. Whether it’s cheetah print or polka dots, wearing patterns is an awesome way to add some flare to an office outfit. However, when mixing patterns, it’s important you stay within the same color family. You don’t want look too loud and crazy. Also look for solid pieces that can break up patterns. This will allow the eye to distinguish between multiple patterns.

SKIRTS

We are so used to thinking that the only skirt appropriate for work is a pencil skirt. WRONG! A flared skirt, hemmed just above the knee, can transform and update your work look. It’s fun and conveys just the right amount the sexy. Play with different textures like leather or lace. Show off those legs girl!

JEANS

Jeans are a classic, hands down. You can dress them up or down. They are perfect for a creative and casual work environment. Pair a light blue jean with a white blazer to give a twist to the traditional white tank and jeans. You can even add a pastel top to the mix. This would give a subtle pop of color, while also softening the look.

Blogger Rach Parcell demonstrates all of these looks on her blog, Pink Peonies, daily.  Below are some of our favorites!

PERFECT MATCH: BAUBLE BAR x NORDSTROMS x ANTHROPOLOGIE.

BaubleBar, a jewelry line that originated in none other than the fashion capital of the country, New York City, just hit stores in Pennsylvania for the first time. The line is primarily sold on the Internet but will be featured at jewelry bars at the Nordstrom in the King of Prussia mall. They are also collaborating with Anthropologie for a limited time. Nothing says spring like some fresh, bright new jewelry and these affordable pieces are to die for. Here are some of my favorite pieces and suggestions on what to pair them with.
This necklace is the perfect accessory for spring. The pastel green is a gorgeous color that will pop against white. Don’t be afraid to wait until Memorial Day – complete white outfits have been featured in many fashion ads this season and celebrities have been dressing in white head-to-toe. This bright outfit will have people marveling from a mile away.

These gorgeous earrings are a must-have for this season. Spring is the season of new life and these will compliment your spring fever perfectly. The gorgeous color combination (the yellow and pale crystal blue are my favorite) is everything you need for that fresh look. Try pairing these with a white shirt, yellow pants and wedges. For an evening look, pair with a short, flirty yellow dress.

Boho is a style we’ve seen emerge immensely over the past couple years. Spring is the season where this trend can really shine. From crochet tops, flowy skirts and strappy sandals, now is the perfect time to embrace your inner peace (even if it’s just so you can wear the cute clothes). These earrings go with pretty much anything. With nine different colors you can’t go wrong. The featured color is pink/gold. My personal favorite is the coral/gold. Dress up your favorite daytime outfit with these or use them to compliment your favorite nighttime one.

Arm candy is one of the latest trends. Women will stack their wrists with Michael Kors watches upon Marc Jacobs’s bracelets until their arms weigh more than ten pounds. You don’t have to pay as much as you’d think to pull off this chic look. Try these three pieces together and maybe add a gold watch if you’re feeling extra bold. Pair with a cropped white tee shirt, destroyed boyfriend jeans and strappy heels for a sexy, effortless look.
